Shark fins are now one of the most valuable and sought-after products on the markets restaurants, especially in Asia. Even 10 years ago, the commodity trade was hampered by technical difficulties while fishing. Currently, a massive increase in wealth of the society the Far East, and improved fishing techniques resulted in a huge increase in exploitation of sharks. The result is a reduction in population, inflation, and rising costs of fishing.

Shark fisheries are different from other commercial fisheries. Most species of fish caught ripen early, produce large quantities of eggs and have a speed increase of up to 30% per year. Even when it comes to overfishing of the species, then if there are no other adverse environmental factors, there is no extinction of species due to its widespread occurrence. Sharks and mature late, grow slowly, and several large young are born after a long period of pregnancy. For example, basking matures at the age of 15 - 20 years, has two or three year period of pregnancy and gives birth to 4 to 6 young. |

United Nations Conference on the Human Environment of 1972 indicated the need for international cooperation in the management and protection of animals moving in different countries or territorial waters and international. This led to the signing of interstate treaties on wildlife and fisheries. Conservation programs because of the whale shark wędrowniczą nature requires international cooperation to make sense.
